My name is Josh Williams, and the green arte is an offering of great import for me. This work is the culmination of over 25 years of working with the plant spirits in magic and medicine and ritual- and I am thrilled to be sharing it with you here. I’m a full-time clinical herbalist in Salt Lake City, Utah offering both virtual and in-person consultations along with a massive library of classes and courses you can take from wherever in the world you may be.

I’m a traditionally-trained clinical herbalist, modern wortcunning practitioner, plant spirit worker, author, teacher, and formulator; most importantly I am a follower and initiate of The Old Ways. I have over 12 years of structured education and apprenticeship study with some of the most incredible plant medicine people in the world (I’m slightly biased, of course!) and over 25 years of personal study, experience, exploration, and practice in the ways of spiritual herbalism and herb magic. My passions in working with plants center on their personhood- their identity as arcane spirits with a depth of wisdom, virtue, and power I am completely fascinated by. The classes, courses, writings, and remedies I craft are all intended to open the ways between human folk and our mighty plant spirit kin.

I practice a style of herbalism that is at once deeply ancient and fiercely contemporary. My inspiration for plant medicine comes from the stories, legends, and processes of my ancestors while honoring the where, when, and who we are right now. I work with an ancient energetic (also: constitutional, temperamental) model of herbal medicine alongside my own elemental herbalism methods which draw on the language of the primordial elements of earth, air, fire, and water to explore and remedy disharmonies. As a spiritual herbalist, I honor the spirit of plants and work with them by approaching them as they are- conscious, wise, and powerful beings. I also work with journeywork techniques which connect plant spirits to the human person in a visionary experience of transformation and wellness. My approach to whole-being wellness is nourished by the cosmology, mythos, and wisdom of northern and western European spiritual traditions.

My extensive formal training and clinical practicum is in Western Vitalist, Folk European, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese herbalism; I work with all these models concurrently to explore the energies, patterns, and expressions you’re experiencing- and to connect in deep and powerful ways to the right plants to call in for support. I also have extensive training in visionary and journey methods, energy healing techniques, and meditation. most of the plants I work with in clinic are those which I grow or are as local to me as possible.

As a practitioner of a spiritually-informed style of herbalism, I find no difference between what is herbal medicine and what is herbal magic. I’m most known for my work as an occult botanist and presenter on herbal folklore from the animistic, ancient traditions of my ancestors and their kin, and I allow this green mysticism to spill over fully into the way I work with herbal medicine.
